NOTICE FOR SHORE COMPETITORS

In the unlucky event that anyone is injured during shore competitions, would you all note that Bob Poole carries a full First Aid kit and also holds a St John’s Ambulance First Aid Work Certificate.

21/09/08

On 21st September, during a Poole Dolphins SAC private members boat match Neil Glover landed a "double shot" of Trigger fish (See “Members Pictures”)

13/09/08

Poole Dolphins SAC members Sheila Carroll & Phil Dawson managed to get to sea twice during their recent 2 weeks holiday. On 8th September, whilst fishing from their own boat just off Boscombe Pier Phil landed one of the smallest skate you will see caught on rod & line. (See “Members Pictures”)

The 13th September found them in Swanage Bay having much better luck catching 8 bass in total. 4 weighed over 6lb, 2 just over 3lb and two fine fish of 8lb 6oz and 8lb 13oz (See “Members Pictures”) Two were kept, the rest released alive.

Also on 13th September, Poole Dolphins SAC were holding an evening shore match from Taddiford beach. It was a beautiful still evening with a full moon, ideal for Sole fishing, and Dave Potts came up tops with a fine Sole of 1lb 7oz some small Bass, Pout and a Small Eyed ray.

09/09/08

On 8th September Poole Dolphins member Dave Potts fished the shore at Abbotsbury and besides catching Codling, Bream and Mackerel, land a specimen Plaice of 4lbs 3ozs. The fish was weighed at Wessex Angling in Poole. (Photo on Members Pictures page)

Poole Dolphins held their one day species hunt on 31st August. Nick Bainton came first with 67 points, Tony Way 2nd & Jason Way close behind for 3rd place. Ten members fished around the Swanage area, and found 9 different species. An astonishing 44 garfish were caught!

04/08/08

Hi All.

Just a reminder that we are fishing Milford this Sat and again on Monday in the Neptune league. Both teams were short last time and there was a lot of last minute panic so let your captains know well in advance if you can't make it.

Note to captains: We are doing the weigh-in on this one.

Worbarrow is on the 16th.

I have just ordered 50 live peelers from South Wales, should be here in time for Worbarrow but not Milford, let me know if you want any, they work out about £1 each with the postage.

See you soon.

Nick.

28/07/08

Only 3 boats fished the Private Members Boat comp on Sunday but a variety of fish were caught including 4 congers, Bream, Wrasse and Dogfish. In addition Jason Way had a nice Bass of 7lb 11oz and Dave Lynes a Blonde of 28! (A blonde Ray of 28lbs that is!)

17/07/08

Hi All.

The gate at Hengistbury is now being closed at 22.00. Because of this I am moving Saturdays match to Warren Edge, fishing from 20.00 until 23.00.

This is the next car park back towards Southborne from Solent Meads. It is set down on the cliff from the Southboune coast road, just above Bistro on the Beach. There have been some good smoothound caught here lately.

See you all there.

Nick.

Hi all! On Saturday 12th and Sunday the 13th, the private boat section, fished the Club Species hunt. 11 members took part. In all twelve different species were caught. Tony Way came in first with 114 points, 2nd was Jason Way with 95 points, Nick Diffy was 3rd with 57 points ,and Ryan Way Jnr 4th. However, his best fish was a conger of 46lb! Well done Ryan! The weather on Saturday night upset our plans as 3 boats had to restrict themselves to the harbour entrance because of high winds. On the Sunday all boats got outside and apart from a wind against the tide, we all had a great day. Well done chaps for giving it a go and for your support. We will try again next year. (Report from Alan Tubb)

12/07/08

Hi all.

I was hoping to fish the all nighter at Worbarrow on the 19th July but unfortunately they are firing that weekend and it is closed.

So it's back to plan B and we will fish it on the 16th August, the start time will be 7.00pm not 8 as stated in the book.

Regards. Nick.

03/07/08

Hi All.

Unfortunately the forecast for the weekend couldn't be much worse, especially for an all night competition at Worbarrow. With this in mind I am going to cancel this competition. But not all is lost, I am looking at rearranging it for either the 19th July or the 16th August (most likely).

Well done to all those that braved the onshore winds at Milford last weekend and especially well done to those that found the smoothound, don't forget to weigh them next time for fish of the month awards.

Nick

27/05/08

Hi All.

Just a reminder that we are fishing Swanage Pier this Saturday from 7pm ‘till 11pm.

I will be picking the key up from the shop at 5-30pm so will be there early. We should be able to park on the pier and lock ourselves and the cars in.

This venue fished really well last year with Pollack caught either floatfishing fishbaits or on the bottom right in tight next to the Pier, expect Bream and Mackerel as well as the ever present Wrasse. Best bait was sandeel sections.

If you want to fish on at the end I can let you have the key.

See you all there.

Nick.

27/05/08

Tony Way has submitted a nice picture of Dolphins off Old Harry. (See Local Views). Incidentally I saw 2 off Durlston Head last Sunday 27th April.

28/04/08

Hi All.

Thanks to all those that fished at Milford last Sat, turned out to be an excellent evening. 14 fished and all weighed in making it a very close match and unlucky to those 5 just staying out of the points.

We are fishing at Double Dykes this Sat, the venue is from Double Dykes east to the groyne. Expect plenty of wrasse from the far end and allsorts elsewhere. This fished very well last year. Don't forget that the car park shuts at ten so please park on the road. If they are now shutting the road then we will change the venue to include Solent Meads as well, I will let you know more when I have been down to inspect.

See you there.

Nick.

23/04/08

Hi All.

Just a reminder that we are fishing at Milford shingle on Sat night from 8 ‘til midnight. The forecast is good, the tide is good so hopefully it will fish better than it did for the Neptune League. Bream are now showing all across Poole Bay so I would expect them to feature on Saturday as well as pout and dogs, maybe a smoothound..

Those that haven't been before go down New Lane until it bears sharp left and there is a footbridge in front of you, park here, cross the bridge and fish anywhere between the boulder groyne in front of you, left to the fort on the end.

See you all there, good luck.

Nick.

Phil Prestidge has caught a record-breaking Blonde Ray whilst fishing from the shore at Southbourne early on the morning of April 15th.

Initially fishing for Small Eyed Rays, Phil's fish weighed in at 15lb 7oz.

This is not only a Poole Dolphins Club record but breaks the NFSA Wessex record by 5lbs! The fish is a staggering 193% of specimen size for a beach caught fish in NFSA Area D. Photo available on Members Pictures page.

4/04/08

Hi All.

Just a quick reminder that we will be fishing at Branksome Chine on Sat night from 7.00 until 10.00.

Expect it to be small stuff close in until the last hour then worth a try further out for pout or Smoothound.

See you all there.

Nick.

P.S. Commitee meeting Thursday, Boat jumble Sunday the 13th so if anyone has anything for the jumble then please bring it along to the meeting or round to my house during next week.

Thanks.

Dear All

Colin has arranged an Evening Trip on the 23rd April 6pm - 10pm cost will be £20 inc bait. The trip will be on Andy Adams Charter Boat Random Harvest 2. If there is enough interest in these trips Colin will arrange more throughout the summer.

Tight Lines,

Nick Diffey

A couple of new links added to our “Other useful Links” listing. A quite good fish identification site and “Haddocks Sea Fishing Blog” suggested by Dave Lynes. Deals with local fishing spots around Poole Harbour plus lots of other useful stuff.

6/03/08

Hi All.

Usual reminder that we are fishing Avon beach this saturday from 7 until 10 pm. This venue always produces fish and normally accounts for a full score card even if nothing big is caught. Normal tactics are 3 small hook paternoster rigs fished close in for flounders, rockling and pout.

The tide is good, however the weather doesn't look so good but we should be sheltered from the south westerley wind. Best spots in front of the pine trees and sunken car park next to the cafe.

Don't forget presentation night at the Conservative Club, Broadstone on the 21st (Good friday) let Chris or myself know how many of you will be attending for the buffet at £5 a head.

All those people that would like to fish in the Neptune league teams of four competition 2nd monday of each month, please let me know.

Hope to see you all at both.

Nick.

The club record for shore caught flounder has bee smashed by Bob Poole with a fish of 4lb 6oz caught Friday evening 8th February at Holes Bay, Poole. The previous record was a mere 3lb 15oz! Photo now on “Members Pictures”

12/02/08

Private boat competition Sunday 10th February. The day was great, the weather perfect. 8 flounders caught, Dave Lynes & Neil went off Kimmeridge and had 6 conger, 1 skate plus small stuff. Nick Bainton’s boat had plenty of whiting and dogfish.

Alan Tubb.

11/02/08

Our next shore match is at Evening Hill and I know it has not been fishing that well recently. However, the bay side at Shore Rd has, with good catches of Whiting and Rockling so I plan to open the venue up to include outside and inside. The new venue limits will be from Shore Rd around the peninsular back to the sewer pipe at Evening hill. So this will include Sandbanks Pavilion, Midway path and North Haven as well as Shore Rd and Evening Hill.

See you there Nick.

PS News about new record flounder (Shore) to come as soon as pictures available. Old record smashed!

As you are all well aware, all anglers are also great lovers, and so the next committee meeting that was scheduled for 14th February (Valentines Day) has been rescheduled to Thursday 21st February. See you all there if you’re not too worn out!

Eric.

30/01/08

The Poole Dolphins match at Whitecliff, Poole on Friday 25th January saw a good return for the 15 anglers fishing with mixed catches of Flounder, Rockling and small Bass. Simon Watkins was the winner on the night with 62cm followed by a tie between Nick Diffey and John Poole both with 50cm. The bigger flounders were absent so the fish of the month award stays with Bob Pooles' fish of 3lb 3/4oz from Holes Bay.

Nick.

28/01/08

I’ve just added a really good step-by-step knot site to our useful links. It’s called “Animated Knots”. Worth a look.

Eric.

24/01/08

Hi All

Last nights flounder league fished quite well with most fish coming from the lower pegs, one angler had four, so it looks good for tomorrow night.

If there are any trophies to come in then feel free to bring them with you tomorrow, I want to get them to the engravers as soon as possible.

Nick.

23/01/08

Hi All.

Just a reminder that we are fishing at Whitecliff on Friday evening from 8-30 until 11-30.

I will be fishing this venue tonight in the last round of the Wessex flounder league so I will let you all know how it fished tomorrow. Two weeks ago it fished really well with several fish caught and quite a few over the two pound mark.

For those of you who haven't fished it before it is the very bottom end of Baiter where it comes out into Lilliput. Access is from two ways, either use the second car park on the Baiter road by the skateboard park or drive right through Poole park keeping the water tight on your rhs, you will bear right at the roundabout in the park by the swan cafe and then past the model boat lake and through a very small bridge under the railway line, park up immediately after the bridge (Whitecliff rd) and the pegs will be just opposite. We will fish peg numbers 1 to 30, they are marked on the tarmac path in green paint so you will know if you are in the right area if you are the first there.

I fished Holes bay last night along with about twelve others, only saw two fish landed both average size (I had one)

See you all Friday. Nick.

16/01/08

Despite the gale force winds and driving rain 16 anglers turned out to fish the first shore match of the season on the road stretch of Holes Bay on January 12th 2008. The anglers found some very good sport from the resident large flounders, winner on the night with a fine fish of 3lb 3/4oz at 46 cm long was Bob Poole, second Nick Bainton 38cm and third Alan Tubb 36cm.

14/01/08

Please note that the “Castaways” flounder competition has been rearranged for Sunday 27th January 2008.

Nick.

04/01/08

NOTICE

Will all members holding trophies from last year please return them to a committe member in good time for engraving with this year’s winners. Presentation evening will be in March.

20/12/07

2008 fixtures now available for your diaries.

Eric.

19/12/07

Hi All.

Just to let you know that a flounder of 4lb 6oz has been caught from Poole Harbour this week and is a new club record for Bournemouth and District ac.

Another fish of 5lb 10oz was also caught in nets in the same area and if caught on rod and line would have been the new British record.

Nick.

17/12/07

Hi All.

Thanks to all those that turned up for a bitterly cold mornings fishing at Baiter on saturday, that was the coldest my hands have been for a long time. A big welcome to Tony and Peter, hope you both enjoyed it.

There were nineteen of us on the beach and some nice sized fish were caught. I had two for 79cm, biggest one was 1lb 15oz. Simon had one and so did Dave Potts, this venue has been fishing hard lately so this was not a bad return.

Many thanks again to Chris and Carol for putting on a splendid lunch back at the club and as usual everyone went home with a prize and a full stomach.

The last one of the year will be at Abbotsbury on the 28th fishing from 4 till 8, this is a good tide and the venue has been fishing very well.

To get there either come along the coast road from Weymouth to West bay or go through Dorchester and out the other side as if going to Bridport there is a turning on your left that is signposted to Abbotsbury via Portesham. This is in a dip in the road near the big pallet business on your right and is quite easily missed so keep your eyes open.

When you get to Abbotsbury drive through the Village, heading west and out the other side there will be a turning on your left to the Botanical gardens, turn down here and at the bottom of the lane is a carpark on your left. You will now have the shingle beach in front of you.

Just like at Ferrybridge try and stick together I will probably head to the left a little. You can expect Dogfish, Whiting and some large Pout but what we all want is the Codling to show of course. There were recently 50 caught in an open down there. Baits will be rag, squid, lug if you can get it and mackerel. Best to keep the rigs heavy this is not a place for light lines, you don't have to cast far there is deep water close in.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and will be itching to try out all the fishing gear you got as presents.

See you on the beach, happy xmas.

Nick.

12/12/07

Hi All.

Your usual reminder that the Xmas Fayre match will be fished this Saturday from 8.00 am until midday at Baiter from the slipway north towards the Quay, favourite spots will be at the Quay end near to the sewer pipe. I expect a good turn out for this one so get there early. There will be the usual buffet afterwards at £5 a head at the Broadstone con-club, other halves welcome, this will also include the prize giving for those catching in the match and the raffle for those who didn't.

Please let myself or Chris Holloway know if you are coming back to the club so he can gauge numbers for the buffet.

The last match will be at Abbotsbury on the 28th.

For those of you fishing in the Wessex flounder league, the last two matches are on the 9th and 23rd of Jan, so put those in your new diaries.

See you on Saturday.

Nick.

26/11/07

Next match is the xmas fayre on Sat 15th Dec fishing Baiter at the car park end 8 till 12 in the morning. After the match we will all return to Broadstone Conservative Club for the best buffet lunch you've ever had, as always prepared by the lovely Carol Holloway. I will be asking for numbers attending nearer the time, don't forget wives and girlfriends are also invited to the lunch. There will be a prize giving for the match and a raffle of xmas fayre. All fishing will win a prize. There may be a beer or two involved as well!

Nick
