127 anglers turned out on Sunday May 11th to fish the Poole Dolphins Open Boat Bream Competition on a lovely sunny day.
They all went afloat in 9 of the local charter boats and 19 private boats. Sea conditions were good, allowing the boats to travel where they wanted and where they thought the best bream would be.Their target a bream weighing over 2lb.This was the minimum size that any bream could be weighed in.
Reports during the day were scarce, nobody wanting to give away any catch reports. The scales opened at 4-30pm to a quiet start. At 4-45pm the rush began. 41 people weighed in fish over 2lb and the scales closed at 5-30pm sharp.
When all the working out was complete, Will Summerell was top weight with a bream of 3lb 14ozs caught on a private boat. The top weight on a charter boat was Mark Turner with a bream of 3lb 12ozs, caught aboard “Random Harvest”. 2nd place overall was Trevor Rowlands with a bream of 3lb 13ozs, 3rd place overall was Pat Thorn with a bream of 3lb 12 1/2 ozs.The optional pool was won by Will Summerell. The prize table then went down to 14th place.13 of these fish weighed over 3lb.
