POOLE DOLPHINS SAC
OPEN COD COMPETITION

Freezing cold conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm of the 159 anglers who turned out for the Poole Dolphins SAC open cod competition.
Fishing was steady throughout the day and with the fish moving close in shore, everyone had an equal chance.
The anglers were limited to one fish only being brought to the scales and prizes were awarded for the best specimens on the day, cod only.
Gary Fisher from Gloucester, fishing aboard ‘Our Gemma’ came out top on the day with a fish of 19 lb 4 oz, he was awarded £750 for his efforts.
Second, with a fish of 11 lb 16 oz was Mark Palmer, aboard ‘Silver Spray’ and third was Dave Brinsdon aboard ‘Jo Jo’ with a fish of 10 lb 10 oz collecting £500 and £350.
A further seven anglers collected prizes from a selection donated by Andy from Poole Sea Angling Centre. We were delighted to also receive sponsorship from Sam and his team at Icom UK. Sam put up one of their new floating handheld VHF radios and this was raffled between the skippers on the day and won by Phil Higgins of ‘Mistress Linda’.
Further prizes from Poole Sea Angling Centre, charter boats ‘Shar’, ‘Jo Jo’, ‘Crimson Tide’, ‘Lady Betty’ and ‘Random Harvest’ and other local businesses, ensured a large raffle for everyone attending.
All proceeds went to the charity-run boat ‘Dolphin3’ which gives disabled people the chance to get out on the water around Poole. A total of £600 was raised for them and many thanks to everyone that made this possible.
Thanks also to Adie and his crew at the Pure Drop Inn for hosting the occasion and providing the hot food for the anglers. Look out for the Bream Competition coming this May.
